UNT U-Tubes Win International Competition

Please Donate Below and Help Send the U-Tubes to Valencia, Spain

The UNT College of Music U-Tubes have once again won the International Trombone Association’s Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition! This is the second time the ensemble has achieved this prestigious honor since the competition began in 1988. The Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Competition – named after the famed trombonist and jazz composer – welcomes competing professional ensembles from all over the world, as well as collegiate ensembles from some of the greatest national and international institutions. In celebration of the U-Tubes’ success, our 2014-2015 U-Tubes members have been invited to perform at this year’s International Trombone Festival in Valencia, Spain.

We are so appreciative of the friends, families, and community members that have already contributed to our campaign. The generosity of our community has allowed us to secure our plan tickets for the 2015 International Trombone Festival. Your support truly means the world to us!

Beyond providing critical performance opportunities, the International Trombone Festival aids our students as young professionals through masterclasses, workshops, networking, and cultural education. Please consider helping to send UNT’s U-Tubes to Valencia with a donation in support of this venture. We are counting on your donation by June 25 to be able to send our students to Valencia for one of the greatest professional development opportunities they will have during their time as students. To donate, simply fill in the fields below or call Erin Smith, UNT College of Music Development Associate, at 940-565-2243.

Haven’t heard of the U-Tubes? The U-Tubes is a jazz trombone ensemble at the University of North Texas. The group was founded by Professor Steve Wiest in 2007. Consisting of six tenor trombones, two bass trombones, piano, bass, drums, guitar, and a graduate-level director, the ensemble focuses on exciting modern jazz.
